Geothermal Incentives & Grants (in Manitoba)

The following are the incentives and grants that are currently available to residents within Manitoba. Click on the incentive/grant name for more information.

If you are thinking about having a geothermal system installed by us, we will provide you with all the information you need and if you're eligible, we'll complete the paper work out for you (except Canada Greener Homes Grant since the homeowner must apply).

Efficiency Manitoba Heat Pump Incentive Program

If your home is currently heated by electric, natural gas, propane or fuel oil, and your upgrading to a ground source heat pump you may be eligible for an incentive from Efficiency Manitoba.

If you are approved for this incentive, you can receive the lesser of:

  1. $2.50/sq ft heated by GSHP
  2. $120/MBH of installed heating capacity
  3. $120/MBH of the building's eligible base transmission and infiltration heating load

Paradise Geothermal is a registered supplier for GSHP with Efficiency Manitoba and can apply for this incentive on your behalf.

Manitoba Geothermal Energy Incentive Program

There are provincial incentives for eligible geothermal system installations in new or existing homes. These incentives include a Green Energy Equipment Tax Credit worth up to $2,400 for existing and new homes.

For commercial buildings, owners are eligible to receive up to 15% of the value of their installed geothermal system.

Canada Greener Homes Grant

You may be eligible for up to $3,000 to replace an existing geothermal heat pump, or up to $5,000 for a new geothermal heat pump installation. The ground source heat pump must be an eligible product found on their approved list to qualify for this grant.

This grant must be applied for by the homeowner and requires a pre-retrofit and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation of your home.

Manitoba Hydro Home Energy Efficiency Loan (HEEL)

As a homeowner, with this Manitoba Hydro loan, you'll be assisted with the cost of installing a geothermal heat pump.

Whether you have an existing home (retrofit) or a new home, this loan is available for you. Financing is available up to $20,000 over a maximum term of 15 years with an interest rate of 4.8% (initial 5-year fixed term). This loan is paid back monthly with payments added on your Manitoba Hydro energy bill.

For eligibility with this loan, the following criteria must be met:

  • the homeowner must be a Manitoba Hydro customer and be approved for credit from Manitoba Hydro
  • the heat pump must be designed and installed by a certified contractor (recognized by MGEA)
  • the geothermal heat pump must be tested and rated under CSA Standard C-13256, and installed to meet CSA C448
  • the heat pump must not be air-source (air-source heat pumps do not qualify)
